Merry Christmas

… if anyone is reading my blog.

I had a good Christmas spent with my parents and my brother. I got a lot of nice gifts. We had prime rib for dinner and mostly we just relaxed the entire day. Tomorrow my Mom and I are going to try and hit the sales.

Pajama bottoms aren't pants...

Gosh I haven’t blogged in a while. Eleven days! December has been so busy. I finished my shopping last Saturday. Then I’m off for three days starting Monday, of course.

I want to rant about something today…Pajama bottoms aren’t pants. You know what I mean.

Weekend Recap...again

It seems like I only post stuff about the weekend. I guess I’m so busy working during the week that I never post anything about the week.

This weekend I did some shopping with my Mom. Then today I went for a steak with my brother. It was pretty good. I started writing Christmas cards tonight.

I need to do more shopping. Maybe I can get it done tomorrow after work…

Belated Weekend Recap

Last Saturday I went to the Guilford Art Center. I really didn’t see anything that caught my eye but it was a nice store. After I went there I drove down to the Guilford Green and checked out the stores there. It was very nice. They had quaint shops and restaurants. I will have to go back again when the weather isn’t’ so cold.

On Sunday I went to the city and had my brunch club at The Irish Rogue on West 44th Street. The food was good but the portions were small. On Saturday, 20 people had signed up for the brunch. Six people showed up. That’s all I’m saying…. The people who showed up were the cool people anyway. I found a pottery shop in Hell’s Kitchen that had really cool stuff. I will definitely be back there.

I saw my MP3 player on Amazon for 50 dollars less than I paid for it. Grrr.

Friday

Tonight I made macaroni and cheese w/ ground beef….not very healthy I guess. But I didn’t eat that much today. I was boiling the water for the Kraft Deluxe Mac and Cheese and I poured the whole box in packet of cheese and all. I guess I was daydreaming. That’s the first time I ever did that.

I’ve just been taking it easy tonight. I added some links to the side of my blog: My Yahoo profile so you can see my pic, my myspace (no reason) and my personal web site.

I think I’ll start a rant. We were discussing social networking sites at work today. So, here it goes. I feel like I am one of those people who is going to say “I used to walk to school 2 miles in the snow”. But I’m sorry to all the people who say check out my “web site” and the link is to their myspace profile..that’s not a web site. What you’re showing us is a link to your profile. I have a myspace account that I barely ever use. Mostly I use it to look at other myspace user’s accounts. I really don’t see the point of advertising to the world who your online “friends” are. I especially think it’s funny how people advertise that they have all these half-dressed guys and girls on their pages. “Look at me. I’m sexy and I have half-naked sexy friends.”

I’d better shut up now.

Bliss

I went to my fifth-ever Who concert tonight with my Mom. The acoustics in the Bridgeport Arena weren’t as good as when we went to Madison Square Garden in September, but our seats were closer. So, we got to see really great. We were on the “Pete” side, which is where I always like to be. It was just wonderful. A bonus to the night was that The Pretenders opened for the concert. It was soooooo great. I love The Pretenders and I didn’t know they were going to be there. Chrissie Hynde totally kicks ass.

Post-Thanksgiving

I’m doing this on my lunch hour. I had a SmartOnes Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. It was okay.

I ripped 96 albums onto my mp3 player and I still have 23G left on it.

I played my Animal Crossing game far too much this weekend and read far too little.

Thanksgiving was fun. Now, it’s hard to go back to work. We had a meeting today about the flood. It was pretty bad but it could have been worse. The basement is going to be closed for a month. Many of the books that I cataloged for Special Collections look pretty bad. What can I say….

My mom and I are going to The Who concert tomorrow so I’m taking off Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pre Turkey Day Activities

Well I had off yesterday from my main job because the library flooded in the basement. We got an email saying that there were 55,000 books damaged. Not good. I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to be rare books that I spent the last three years working on when I was part time. I don’t know for sure though. We’ll find out all the details on Monday.

I worked a few hours at my part time job today. It was nice seeing some of the people I haven’t seen in a while since I am working nights there and there isn’t anyone around then.

I just bought a new MP3 player with 30GB of memory. Supposedly I am going to be able to upload (“Rip” is the word) 1000 songs onto it. I’ve been working on that a little tonight while I’m at my parents’ house. I only brought a few CD’s with me. This is going to take a while. I guess it will be cool when I am done. I am starting to be up the latest gadgets lately.

Saturday

Today I put some hours in at my part time job because I felt really tired on Tuesday and I didn’t go in. I cleaned off my desk and vacuumed the floor too. It is so nice to be able to work with a clean desk. After work I went to see the move “Borat”. It was pretty funny. I laughed so hard that I was crying. I really needed to see a funny movie. I haven’t been to the movies in months.

After the movie, I went to Macy’s and I got a pair of knee-high black boots. I had bought some at the end of winter last year but they were 3” heels and I just can’t pull it off. I tried wearing them on Thursday and it felt like I was going through some kind of crazy torture. The ones I found today were Naturalizer and they were only 1” heels. I can’t wait to wear them.

I’m watching this Dateline show where they trap the pedophiles going to the young girl impersonator’s house. This show is on every week. I don’t know why it is on all the time. They should just change the name of the show to Pedoline instead of Dateline or something.

Authority Control All Day!

Today was a good day. We had our Fall Program for the Connecticut Library Association Technical Services Section. We had an all-day program on authority control. The speakers we picked were really informative and had great public speaking skills (which can be sort of rare in technical services).

When I came home tonight it was raining sideways. So, I guess it didn’t matter that I didn’t have my umbrella.

I didn’t play my Nintendo yesterday. I’m a little distraught because one of my “cartoon” characters is moving out of my phony town. C’est la vie. Ahh..life imitates Animal Crossing or vice versa. I don’t know.

Weekend Recap

Saturday I met one of my former co-workers from UCF in the city. It was a nice day. We went to Battery Park, Jacques Torres, some French restaurant and then we went to see Jay Johnson : the Two and Only. It was pretty good.

On Sunday, I went to brunch club. It was at an Italian Restaurant in Murray Hill. It was a good restaurant but I don't like what I ordered. It as a lousy rainy day and only half of the people who were supposed to come showed up. That always irks me a little. When I was walking around after the meal, I slipped on a manhole cover and fell in the street. I skinned my knee and it's black and blue now. Plus it was pretty embarrassing to fall. Rubber bottom shoes and metal don't mix..live and learn.

I finished "N is for Noose". It was pretty good. I didn't know who the killer was until the end. So, it was pretty good. Now I'm taking a break from the alphabet murders and I'ved started Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog. I'm only on the first few pages. I still can't put down the DS playing Animal Crossing. I'll use my bum knee for an excuse.

No Sticker :(

Another election day has passed and my polling location ran out of stickers. It’s just not cool. I’m not the only one who made a disgruntled comment while walking out….

I found my winter gloves. They were in my down coat pockets.

Weekend Recap

I kept having weird dreams this weekend. In one dream I was dreaming that I was watching a movie about this giant running amuck in a town. I wanted to leave the movie because it was boring but whomever I was with wanted to keep watching it. Then last night I dreamt that I had a black SUV (which I don’t) and someone stole the tires off the driver’s side of the car so I couldn’t make it to work. Weird stuff.

I went to my parents’ on Friday and Saturday. Saturday I went to the mall with my mom. I bought a new watch and a Landsend polar fleece top from Sears. I’ve been playing Animal Crossing on my Nintendo DS. I guess I am way too old to play it. In the game I am a little girl that looks like Raggedy Ann. I have to shake the trees to get pears to fall and go fishing to get money. It is an interesting game because whatever time it is in real life is what time it is in the game. I know my brain is turning to mush when I play it. But somehow, I feel like I must continue to shake the trees and go fishing so I can by more crap for my cartoon house… I’ve also been reading “N is for Noose” by Sue Grafton. It’s pretty good so far.

Today, Sunday, I went to the city with my friend, Ione. She lives in Cape Cod now, so she hasn’t been to the city in some time. We went to my favorite restaurant, Union Square Café. I had cod with potatoes and mushrooms. It was the best cod ever. After that we went to the Top of the Rock, the observatory at Rockefeller Center. It was pretty cool. Oh and before lunch, we went to the Strand bookstore. It was awesome.

I can’t find my gloves and it’s cold.

Songs in my head…

Last night I was at my second job and I was listening to Yahoo Radio and this song “Another Tricky Day” by The Who came on. I haven’t heard that song in ages. Yahoo Radio is good because if you rate your songs it remembers what you like. So, now when I’m at work, I can listen to mostly my favorite bands except sometimes some weird ones get thrown in.

Anyway, this song is a good song if you are “Stuck in a Moment” like that U2 song. I know someone who is stuck and all I can do is wait for him (or her) to get unstuck. Sometimes I get stuck too but I just try to think about all the things in my life that I should be thankful for like having ten fingers and ten toes, etc.

Here are the lyrics:

You can't always get it
When you really want it
You can't always get it at all

Just because there's space
In your life it's a waste
To spend your time why don't you wait for the call?

Just gotta get used to it
We all get it in the end
Just gotta get used to it
We go down and we come up again
Just gotta get used to it
You irritate me my friend

This is no social crisis
This is you havin' fun
No crisis
Gettin' burned by the sun
This is true

This is no social crisis
Just another tricky day for you

You can't always get higher
Just because you aspire
You could expire even knowin'

Don't push the hands
Just hang on to the band
And you can dance while your knowledge is growing

It could happen anytime
You can't expect to never cry
Patience is priceless
Not when you try to fly so high
Just stay on that line
Rock'n roll will never die

This is no social crisis
This is you havin' fun
No crisis
Gettin' burned by the sun
This is true

This is no social crisis
Just another tricky day for you

Another tricky day
Another gently nagging pain
What the papers say
Just seems to bring down heavier rain
The world seems in a spiral
Life seems such a worthless title
But break out and start a fire y'all
It's all here on the vinyl

No crisis
Just you havin' fun
There's no crisis
Gettin' burned by the sun
Got no crisis, this is true

This is no social crisis
Just another tricky day for you

You can't always get it
When you really want it
You can't always get it at all

Just because there's space
In your life it's a waste
To spend your time why don't you wait for the call?

Just gotta get used to it
Gotta get used to waiting
Just gotta get used to it
You know how the ice is
Just gotta get used to it
It's thin where you're skating

This is no social crisis
This is you havin' fun
No crisis
Gettin' burned by the sun
This is true

This is no social crisis
Just another tricky day for you

Fella
Just another tricky day
For you
Just another tricky day
For you

Just another tricky day
Just another tricky day
For you

You'll get through

Another Weekend….

Well I haven’t written anything since last weekend. I get so busy during the week.

This weekend I went to New York on Sunday. I went to Brooklyn for the first time. My brunch club had a brunch at a French restaurant called Cocotte. I thought I left enough time to get there on time but the subways were all rerouted for construction. So, I ended up being a few minutes late. Luckily several others had the same problem. Anyway, it was a very enjoyable day. When I got back to Grand Central Station, they were having a “safe” trick-or-treating event. The little kids in their costumes were so cute.

I’m uploading a foliage picture from last weekend.

Weekend Recap

Saturday I taxied some friends who live in New York City around doing the foliage thing. We went to Lyman Orchards in Middlefield and picked apples and then we did some leaf-peeping. It was pretty relaxing but I didn’t realize that I was tired until I got home and I went to bed at 8:30 p.m.!

Sunday, I came up to my parents’ house and just took it easy. I think we went to the mall. I bought a few things..clothes..socks, etc.

I stayed Sunday night because I had a class on preservation at the Farmington Library on Monday (today). I pretty much knew everything from the class from library school, but I guess it always helps to have a refresher. I did learn a few things. It was a weird setting because there were all these town clerks in the class and they were so not like librarians. They were so loud and kept talking over the instructor. Librarians just don’t do that. They needed the librarian action figure to shhhh them.

I’m taking tomorrow off from work…just because. I started my new job on April 14 and I had to wait six months before I was entitled to take a vacation day. So, tomorrow will be my first vacation day. I’m just going to chill..

I haven’t been reading anything. I read a little bit of the New Yorker this weekend and I played my Nintendo DS and watched my brother’s Pinky and the Brain DVD’s. I can feel my brain turning to mush as I write this.

Everybody’s blogging…. So, I guess I’m jumping on the blog bandwagon. I hardly ever update my personal web site. So, let’s see how this goes. Anyway, I guess I’ll start by introducing myself. My name is Jackie. I’m 37, a librarian, single and I live in Connecticut. I really don’t know what this blog is going to be about, probably just random boring thoughts about my day.

Let’s start with today. I would say the highlight of my day was going to lunch. I went to a pizza place in New Haven called Dayton St. Pizza. It was really good. I went with my colleague and fellow librarian, Nancy. We had a medium pie with onions and mushrooms. It was very tasty and we only left one slice. I have only been working in New Haven since April. So, I am still finding out where the good spots to eat lunch are.

Other than that, I purchased two tickets for my favorite band, The Who, on November 28th in Bridgeport. I am going to go with my Mom again. I went with her in September and saw them at Madison Square Garden.

Zzz..wake up today’s entry is done.
